Boat hotel in Maastricht.

Boat hotel in Maastricht.

Last week I stayed at a boat hotel in Maastricht in the Netherlands. And I could not have been happier with my accommodation.

I stay in hotels more than 300 days a year. If there is one type of hotel I am NOT interested in, when on holiday, then it’s your average 4 star hotel. This is because I stay there all the time when I work. So when I decided to spend a couple of days in Maastricht and saw that there was a boat hotel in Maastricht for a very decent price. Then I booked that right away.

I was warned by a couple of people in advance, that this was no luxury hotel. I heard that some people really hate it. But I was really happy there. I am not looking for an old houseboat, turned in to a luxury hotel. I am perfectly happy just staying at an old houseboat. Especially when you consider that I only paid 30€ per night for a single room. This is very cheap in this part of the world I tell you.

The boat is fairly old. But they have made a nice reception area with a bar and you can sit on the deck and have your drinks if the weather is nice. My room was small, but functional. It had a real feel of being a cabin in a boat, which I like, since I love sailing. I had a nice big double bed in my room that gave me a good night’s sleep. The only thing I could have wished for was that the wifi had been stronger, so it had covered my room too and not just the reception/bar area.

But all in all, this was a really cool place to stay. I can only recommend the boat hotel in Maastricht, if you are looking for a cheap and charming place to stay and that you are aware that this is not a boat turned in to a luxury hotel, but an old fashioned house boat with the original cabins.

The name of the place is actually Botel Maastricht and the website of the place is here

  1. Wow, very nice! Is breakfast included in the price? 30 EUR is nothing for the NL..
