The cycling path under the bridge to Florianopolis.
This is a little info about getting to Florianopolis from the Brazilian mainland by bicycle. When I visited Florinapolis a few days ago, I noticed that there is very little online info about this subject. So I thought I would put something up here, for people planning to go cycling across the bridge to Florianopolis.
If you are cycling along the coastline in southern Brazil, you are likely to pass by Florianopolis. That is an absolutely lovely city. Situated on an island off the coast of Brazil.
There are two brides connecting the island with the mainland. But if you want to go cycling across the bridge to Florianopolis, here are a few pointers.
The old suspension bridge is currently closed.
Bridges leading over to Florianopolis.
The old suspension bridge to Florianopolis is called Hercilio Luz. It is currently closed for renovation. So it’s not possible to use that one for anyone crossing over to Florianopolis. Including people who are cycling to Florianopolis.
This is where you enter, when cycling across the bridge to Florianopolis.
That leaves you with the busy Pedro Ivo Campo bridge.
When I was first crossing over the Florianopolis with my bicycle, I cycled on the Pedro Ivo Campo bridge. That was together with all the crazy car traffic on the bridge. I was not very popular with the drivers and I was not very safe either. But when leaving back to the mainland, a taxi driver told me that there is an underpass, going underneath the traffic lane on the bridge.
That underpath is accessible for cyclists and pedestrians.
It’s pretty run down and only works on the northern traffic line. But it’s very nice to cycle and all you have to do is pass the odd guy standing on the path fishing. The lane is full of graffiti and very colourful and I did not feel unsafe at all using that lane.
You might have to look a little for it, but just cycle right up until the bridge starts and then look underneath and you will see it.

This is by far the best way to go if you are cycling across the bridge to Florianopolis.
Hope that someone will find this useful.
