I often get asked by people if there is actually anything to see and do in the Algarve. Except for playing golf and going to the beach. And I can assure you that there is a lot more to Algarve than that. So here are a few other things about the Algarve, that has nothing to do with playing golf or tanning on the beach.

A few years ago the old part of Funchal was fading away and shops were closing up and business moving in to the malls, leaving the old part of town partly deserted.

That was when some innovative artists got the idea to first paint the doors of the abandoned buildings and later on other doors in the old part of town with the owners permission and the painted doors has really helped the old part of Funchal.

The Azores is one of my favourite places on the planet.

One of the most unique places in the world.

If you crave for a place that has stunning natural scenery and is still untouched by mass tourism then head to the Azores.

This little group of islands gives you the chance to hike volcanoes and go whale watching in a place where the natives still go about their daily life the same way they have done for centuries.

This is one little corner of the world where tourism has not changed a place significantly. Even if it’s a world class tourist destination.
