The train journey from Zagreb to Split is a scenic journey.

I Just took the train from Zagreb to Split and I would highly recommend the train, if you are planning to travel that route. It’s a very scenic journey in a nice modern train.

Zagreb is the capital of Croatia and Split is one of the most popular towns on the Croatian coast. Lot’s of people travel the route between these two cities, including me. I personally think that the train journey is really spectacular and I would like to put in my 5 cents for it.

Nice modern train.

Nice modern train.

The train traveling from Zagreb to Split runs two times a day and once at night at the moment. I normally like night train journeys a lot, but in this case I would recommend the day journey. The scenery on the journey is very nice and it gives you some fantastic views of the Croatian countryside. The train between Zagreb and Split goes through some  very sparsely populated areas, that you are not likely to see, unless you travel by train.

And I was not the only one on the train who really enjoyed the journey. There was an elderly Croatian man sitting in front of me. He spend about half the journey with one big smile on his face, while he was enjoying the scenery. And the other half wiping tears from his eyes, cause he clearly enjoyed the journey so much.

The train itself is a modern train that travels at fairly high speed. But not so fast that you lose the good view. There is no restaurant car on the train. but you are welcome to bring your own food and drink onboard. On my journey last week, I went to a local supermarket and picked up two bottles of Croatian microbrew beer that made a good journey even nicer for me.

So if you are traveling on this scenic route, then take the train if you can. It’s more comfortable. It’s better for the environment. And it’s the most scenic way to travel between Zagreb and split as well.

The train goes past some picturesque Croatian villages.
