Crossing the bridge to Trogir.

If you are visiting Croatia and flying in or out of Split Airport. Then don’t forget Trogir. It’s a very pretty town and it’s located right by Split airport.

Many people visit Croatia every year. The big coastal towns of Dubrovnik and Split takes most of the fame. But you should not overlook some of the other interesting places along the Dalmatian coast. These smaller towns also tend to have less tourists and more original feel. Trogir is in my humble opinion a much nicer place than Dubrovnik is.

Trogir is a town that is dominated by tourism. But it’s nowhere near the numbers that you see in Split and especially Dubrovnik, where things have gone totally out of control, with massive amounts of cruise ships docking there.

It’s an old Venetian town and one of the best preserved on the entire Adriatic coast. Located on a small island, only a few meters from the mainland. You can easily walk across one of the small bridges connecting the mainland to the old town of Trogir. And you can easily walk around the old part of town, which is protected by UNESCO.

You only have pedestrians and bicycles in the old part of town.

If you want to stay in the old part of the Town, then you have a couple of smaller hotels and some private rooms you can rent. On the mainland, within walking distance from the old part of Trogir, you have a few larger hotels.

Trogir is actually located considerable closer to Split Airport than Split is. Split is located 25 kilometers from the airport, while Trogir is only 2 kilometers away. So you can even walk to the airport if that is what you prefer. I actually like that myself 🙂

Happy travels :-).
