Standing on the wing of any airplane on Aero Beach.
Forget Thailand, The Maldives and Hawaii. Uganda has my favourite beach ever.
I have often argued that Brazil has the best beaches in the world. I will still say that this is true, if you take the country as a whole. But if I have to pin down one specific beach in the world that I really like, then it has to be Aero Beach in Entebbe, Uganda.
Aero Beach has an airplane graveyard, right on the beach.
My reason to love Aero Beach is not because it has the nicest sand or the nicest water. It’s because it is so quirky that I can’t stop loving it. Aero Beach is located just 1 kilometer away from Entebbe Airport, which is the main airport in Uganda. Smack on the beach you have several grounded planes that have not been in use for many years. And next to the planes, you have beach bars and people swimming.

You can climb on to the planes if you like and sit on the wing, in the cockpit, or whatever you like. There seems to be very few regulations.

Very few foreigners visit Aero Beach.
Aero Beach is very popular with local Ugandans, who come to swim, hang out on the beach and socialise. This gives the beach a very nice vibe as well. I visited Aero Beach 4 times during my stay in Uganda and loved the vibe on the beach. But I did not come across a single western traveler on the beach, during my 4 visits to Aero Beach.

The beach itself, is actually quite nice.

Welcome to the beach in Uganda.
You also have concerts on Aero Beach.
During my first visit to Aero Beach, I noticed that there was a day with several live concerts on the beach, 3 weeks later. So I timed my visit to Uganda so that I would be in Entebbe 3 weeks later. I had a fantastic Sunday afternoon, listening to local Ugandan rappers, who put on a really good show. The crowd was all local and the vibe was very lively and very friendly to me as a foreigner passing by.

Some of the local girls even asked me to perform TikTok Dances with them. That was probably the most tacky looking moment that afternoon 🙂 .
How do you get to Aero Beach?
Aero Beach is right next to Entebbe Airport. As you exit the airport, you just drive down the main road, towards Entebbe City and then there is a little side street leading down to the beach, There is a small entrance fee to visit Aero Beach. It was 10,000 Ugandan Shilling when I was there in December 2024. That is roughly 2,5€. So very affordable indeed. I came by bicycle and was allowed to bring my bicycle on to the beach and park it by one of the beach bars.

One of the beach bars is called “Rising Titanic”.
Entebbe is actually a really nice town as well.
Many people will start and finish their Uganda trip at Entebbe, as this is where the main airport is located. I would like to mention that Entebbe is actually a really comfortable town to be in. There are also many hotels and guest houses to stay in, at all price ranges. The restaurant scene is also very good in Entebbe. So if you have the time for it, then do not just rush through Entebbe . Stop there for a couple of days and make sure to visit Aero Beach.
I was visiting Entebbe as part of a longer cycling trip in Uganda. You can read about that trip on this link.
